Microsoft's rumored Windows Hello webcams reportedly codenamed 'Bari'

Microsoft is rumored to be working on a new family of webcams, and at present we may have a codename to put to them: Bari. That'southward according to a new report from Petri, which mentions that the cameras are also occasionally referred to as 'Aruba,' a codename associated with the Surface Hub two.

The association between the two codenames suggests that the Bari camera may be closely related to the USB-C webcam Microsoft has shown off in previews of the Surface Hub 2.

The new family of webcams is rumored to include back up for Windows Hullo authentication, marking the kickoff time Microsoft volition take made the facial recognition tech available in one of its ain products outside of the Surface line. The cameras are too expected to support 4K and work with Xbox I consoles in some manner, potentially enabling automated sign-ins.

That Microsoft may be working on a family of webcams isn't entirely surprising; Panos Panay, Microsoft's Surface main, hinted at the possibility in an October interview, pointing to the Surface Hub ii's USB-C webcam as something that could plow into a broader product push. In a more recent interview, Panay continued to push the idea that the Surface brand may proceed to expand into new hardware categories.
